Investing in trade corridor is critical to job growth in San Diego

October 31, 2014

As a lifelong San Diego resident, I am continually impressed by the diversity and growth of our region. We live in an area laden with assets and blessed with enormous potential. Take for example San Ysidro, gateway to the world’s most prosperous state; Imperial Beach, globally recognized for its environmental treasures and iconic scenery; and National City, known for its historic neighborhoods and highest concentration of jobs per capita in the county; and in the near future, the Chula Bayfront Project, which will undoubtedly also have a significant economic impact on our region.

Caring for in-home support services

Silvia of San Ysidro is an In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) worker caring for her 87 year-old mother who suffers from dementia. Her mother requires around the clock care, deep patience, a steady routine and unfailing love. The state helps pay for this type of care through the IHSS program because it is both significantly cheaper than out-of-home care, such as nursing homes or board and care facilities, as well as a more compassionate way to help our elderly.

We owe our military heroes better than that, and the California Legislature should take every reasonable step to expedite the claims process.
