San Diego, CA… State Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) announced today that Senate Bill 1074 has made its way to the Governor’s desk.  This bill helps existing geothermal plants operating in disadvantaged communities by funding innovative minerals extraction techniques at those facilities has made its way to the Governor’s desk.    

Bill appropriates $1.4 million

San Diego, CA… State Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) announced today that Senate Bill 859 has made its way to the Governor’s desk.  Senate bill 859, is a budget-related measure containing a proposal that would allocate $1.4 million to the Salton Sea.     

“While we still have a long way to go, every bit of funding for the Salton Sea will help us reach our restoration goals,” stated Senator Hueso.  “I want to thank my colleagues and the state agencies for working with me to secure funding for this precious lake.”

San Diego, CA… Today, Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) Chair of the Senate Energy Utilities and Commerce Committee stated he is thrilled about President Obama’s announcement regarding the memorandum of understanding between The Department of Interior and the California Natural Resources Agency to mitigate the damage suffered by the Salton Sea.

San Diego, CA… Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) announced that Governor Brown has signed Senate bill 1138, which would designate the first Friday in May of each year as Space Day in California into law.  

“I am overjoyed my proposal for promoting space observation has been signed into law,” stated Senator Hueso.   “This new law will inspire every Californian to dim or turn off the lights for an hour in an effort to reduce light pollution and value the phenomena of our night sky.  Thank you Governor Brown.”

San Diego, CA… Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) announced today that Governor Brown signed the  Electronic License Plate Pilot Program extension bill into law.   Senate bill (SB) 1399 extends the sunset date from January 1, 2017 to January 1, 2019 on an existing California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pilot program that evaluates alternatives to license plates and registration documents.

San Diego, CA…State Senator Ben Hueso, Chair of the Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee, introduced a measure that will strengthen regulatory oversight of ride-hailing services, which are technology enabled transportation services, while supporting their continued growth.   Senate Bill 1035 addresses some of the existing shortcomings of the regulatory oversight of these services.  The bill requires the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to assess and determine public safety, consumer protections and enforcement.
