Senator Hueso Funds Calexico Pool

Senator fulfills promise to the community 

(Calexico, CA) – A total of $2.7 million was included in this year’s state budget to fund the Calexico municipal pool that was destroyed in 2010 by the Easter earthquake. To commemorate this effort, Senator Hueso will hold a press conference this Thursday, July 10 at 10:00 a.m.

Senator Hueso, California Highway Patrol and the Pacific Safety Center to Host Child Car Seat Safety Clinic

(National City, CA) – On Saturday, June 28, Senator Ben Hueso along with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Pacific Safety Center will host a Child Car Seat Safety event to provide information on how to keep our children safe while driving. CHP officers will be on hand to answer questions regarding child seat installation and compliance. They will also be conducting child car seat installation inspections. This is a great opportunity to learn about car safety laws and child passenger safety requirements.

Legislature Passes On-Time and Balanced Budget

(Sacramento, CA) – The state legislature convened on Sunday to pass California’s finalized 2014-15 budget. This is the fourth year in a row that Democrats have delivered an on-time, balanced budget. The finalized plan appropriates $156.4 billion, with $108 billion of General Fund spending. It remains balanced through the five-year forecast period of 2019.

Senator Hueso Fights to Increase Funding for County Veterans Service Offices

(Sacramento, CA) –  Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) leads an effort to increase funding for county veterans service officers (CVSO).  In a letter issued to FY 2014-15 budget conference committee, Senator Hueso and Senate colleagues urge the committee to adopt the Assembly proposal that increases funding for CVSOs by three million dollars, bringing the total funding to $5.6 million.

Bill calls for California’s electrical supply portfolio to include more geothermal power

(Sacramento, CA) – The Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee approved   SB 1139 today, authored by Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) together with principal coauthor Assemblymember Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella).  The bill requires energy retail sellers and local publicly owned electric utilities to procure 500 megawatts of electricity from baseload geothermal power plants by 2024.
