Sacramento, CA… Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), Chair of the Senate Energy, Utilities, and Communications Committee, today commended the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for making meaningful progress on reforms since he and his fellow Committee members held oversight hearings in 2015 to examine the agency’s operations. The CPUC is responsible for regulating California’s private for-profit water, phone, electric, and gas utilities – including San Diego Gas and Electric – as well as various transportation service providers.

San Diego, CA… Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) introduced Senate Bill 899, legislation that would prohibit business establishments from charging customers different prices for similar or like goods on the basis of gender.  SB 899 also requires retailers and grocers to notify customers of their right not to be charged differently for similar products.

Sacramento, CA… State Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), Chair of the Senate Energy, Utilities, and Communications Committee will conduct an oversight hearing on Proposition 39, The California Clean Energy Jobs Act.  The oversight hearing will take place on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the State Capitol in Room 112.

San Diego, CA…Senator Ben Hueso today announced Governor Brown signed into law Senate Bill 287, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Safety Act.  This measure will now require buildings constructed after January 2017, with occupancy of 200 or more, to install Automated External Defibrillator (AEDs) onsite.  AEDs are commonly used to diagnose life threatening cardiac arrest and treat through deregulation, which allows the heart to resume to normal rhythm.

an Diego, CA… State Senator Ben Hueso announced today that as part of September’s Hunger Action Month, he will participate in the CalFresh Challenge and live on a $4.38 per day/$30.67 budget on food for a week.   CalFresh, formerly known as the state's food stamp program, provides low-income residents with a budget each month to pay for groceries.  Senator Hueso has vowed to walk in the shoes of those living with this reality every day.

San Diego, CA…State Senator Ben Hueso announced today that Senate Bill 415, a measure that will dramatically increase voter turnout in local elections, was signed by the Governor today.  Local governments whose voter turnout is 25% less than the average turnout in that city will be required to consolidate their elections with state elections.

(Sacramento, CA) – In a ceremony at the State Capitol on Monday, December 1st, 2014, Senator Ben Hueso took the oath of office for the 2015-2016 Legislative Session, a new term on the Senate for Hueso. Senate session was called to order by Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom and remarks were delivered by Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León and Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff.
