(Sacramento, CA) – The Senate Environmental Quality Committee (Senate EQ) today approved Senate Bill 1228, the trade corridor improvement fund, and Senate Bill 1292, a measure that would increase access to safe drinking water for severely disadvantaged communities.

Bill calls for California’s electrical supply portfolio to include more geothermal power

(Sacramento, CA) – The Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee approved   SB 1139 today, authored by Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) together with principal coauthor Assemblymember Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella).  The bill requires energy retail sellers and local publicly owned electric utilities to procure 500 megawatts of electricity from baseload geothermal power plants by 2024.

Joint Hearing takes a closer look at geothermal projects in California

Legislation Follows Community Roundtable Discussion

(Sacramento, CA) – Following a community roundtable discussion on fire safety in our schools held late January, Senator Hueso introduces a bill to ensure schools and fire departments are working together to address deficiencies in school fire alarm systems. Senate Bill 1112 will require schools to immediately send their completed fire alarm maintenance report to the fire department for review. Currently, those reports remain on school grounds and are made available to fire department upon request.
