 (Chula Vista, CA) – This Friday, January 31, Senator Ben Hueso will host a community roundtable discussion on fire safety at schools. The program will cover how the state regulates fire safety at school sites and will address steps to make schools even safer, including regular fire alarm system inspections.

“Our children deserve safe schools, and our community deserves to know that the fire safety systems at our schools are properly installed, operational, tested and up-to-code,” said Senator Hueso.

(Sacramento, CA) – “With the passage of Prop 30, we made education a priority. With this promise, we have to ensure that all integral education programs are maintained, especially those programs that deal with workforce training such as agricultural education. California is the world leader in agricultural production and my Senate District holds one of the largest agricultural areas. Therefore, funding for agricultural education and vocational careers in the field are absolutely necessary.

(SAN DIEGO, CA) – Senator Hueso takes on the role of Santa Claus to deliver toys to children in this year’s Casa Familiar Toy Party. This annual event will benefit children in South San Diego and San Ysidro. With many supporters such as the U.S. Marine Corps, Parkhaven Apartments, as well as many gracious independent contributions, Casa Familiar managed to collect more than 1,000 toys that will be enjoyed by many children and their grateful families.

(San Diego, CA) – On Saturday, December 14, Senator Ben Hueso will present a resolution to the Rock Church commending their seventeenth annual Toys for Joy campaign. This important event unites schools, businesses, community organizations and other local churches to bring toys and food to children and their families. In addition to the toy drive, the Rock Church has made other thoughtful contributions to the community such as removing trash as part of the Church’s Do Something clean-up effort.

 (El Centro, CA) – On Monday, December 16, Senator Ben Hueso along with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Kiwanis Club of El Centro will host a Child Car Seat Safety event to provide information on how to keep our children safe while driving. CHP officers will be on hand to answer questions regarding child seat installation and compliance. They will also be conducting child car seat installation inspections. This is a great opportunity to learn about car safety laws and child passenger safety requirements.

(Sacramento, CA) – The Wildlife Conservation Board (WBC) today approved $1.2 million grant to the San Diego County of Department of Parks and Recreation to restore trails and habitat on the south side of the Tijuana River Estuary, located three miles south of Imperial Beach. Senator Ben Hueso has been working closely with officials in securing this funding shortly after becoming an Assembly Member and throughout his new term as Senator.

(SAN DIEGO, CA) – In his third annual Turkey Club Giveaway, Senator Ben Hueso ran a series of events to benefit San Diego County and Imperial County families. The first Turkey Club Drive was held this week on Wednesday at the Neighborhood House in Calexico, followed by two additional events in Chula Vista and National City held at the Head Start Program on Thursday. The final giveaway of the series will run tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. and 10 a.m. tomorrow (details below).

(Chula Vista, CA) – Senator Ben Hueso will present a resolution to Chula Vista High School commending their participation in Take a Veteran to School Day. This important event, in honor of Veteran’s Day, links veterans and active duty military to students in the classroom. Veterans of all backgrounds have been invited to share their stories with students and to receive thanks for their dedicated service and selfless commitment to their community, state and nation. Veterans will visit student classrooms before participating in the all-school patriotic assembly.
