Details in plan result in increased funding for schools in the 40th Senate District

Sacramento, Calif. (June 14, 2013) –  Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) voted today in favor of the new funding plan for public schools known as the “Local Control Funding Formula, (LCFF),” which strategically directs additional funds to the state’s neediest students. The proposal was approved by the legislature as part of the Budget Act 2013.

Sacramento, Calif. (June 14, 2013) – Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) is pleased to announce the legislature’s approval of an additional $6 million for veteran services. The added funding represents a $3 million allocation from the State General Fund for county veterans service officers (CVSO) and $3 million to fund three, twelve member strike force teams to help address the back log of federal benefits for veterans.

(June 14, 2013) – Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) applauds today’s vote by the state Senate approving funding for critical projects for the Salton Sea and the Tijuana River Valley in a budget package released today by the legislature’s budget subcommittees.  Hueso worked tirelessly to urge the Senate budget subcommittees to approve these budget items.

Sacramento, Calif. (June 6, 2013) – The California State Senate has approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 40 authored by Senator Ben Hueso (D - San Diego) in honor of Korean War Veterans. Sponsored by the National Guard Association of California and the California State Military Museum, this measure urges Californians to observe the sixtieth anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Day on July 27, 2013 with appropriate ceremonies and activities that honor and give thanks to our Korean War veterans and members of the California National Guard.

Proposed legislation increases veterans’ access to state’s CalFresh Program

Sacramento, Calif. (May 29, 2013) – On a 39 to 0 vote, the California State Senate has approved Senator Ben Hueso’s bill increasing accountability to the foster youth program.  Sponsored by Children’s Advocacy Institute at the University of San Diego School of Law,  Senate Bill 522 requires counties to inform foster youth and their counsel when a county moves to appoint itself as a representative payee for certain federal benefits for which foster youth are eligible, such as the Supplemental Security Income for Aged, Blind and Disabled (SSI) program.
