Senator Hueso Secures Funding for Mar Vista High School Pool and Veterans Resource Center Grant Program
Sacramento, CA – June 18, 2018 – As part of the State Legislature’s 2018-2019 State Budget, Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) helped secure millions of dollars in State funding for much-needed improvements in the 40th Senate District, including water quality projects, construction of public facilities and workforce development programs.
In addition to the projects funded by SB 840, which is the 2018-19 State Budget bill that was approved last week and sent to the Governor for his signature, Senator Hueso also successfully advocated for two important projects approved today:
- AB 1808, the education omnibus trailer bill, and its Senate companion, SB 842, allocates $2 million to the Sweetwater Union High School District to help fund necessary upgrades to the existing competitive swimming pool at Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach.
- AB 1809, and its Senate companion, SB 843, the higher education trailer bill, appropriates $6,244,000 to the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges to support the Veterans Resource Center grant program. Under the program, community college districts and campuses may apply for grants to provide veterans and active duty members with necessary resources to help them succeed academically.
“This year’s budget includes the highest investment in K-14 school funding in California’s history, which will improve the lives of our working families and help grow our economy,” said Sen. Hueso. “Furthermore, our fiscally-responsible budget includes major investments in higher education, including programs that further solidify our commitment to California’s veterans.”
The State Budget bill and associated trailer bills for fiscal year 2018-2019, if signed by the Governor, become effective on July 1, 2018.
