$5,000 Barona Education Grant to Fund Materials to Promote and Celebrate Cultural Diversity

(SAN DIEGO, CA) June 10, 2011 – High school students at King Chavez High School are set to benefit from a $5,000 education grant awarded today by the Barona Band of Mission Indians. Assemblyman Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) joined Principal Jeb Hubbs in accepting the grant presented to the school by Edwin "Thorpe" Romero, Chairman of the Barona Band of Mission Indians.

Assemblymember Hueso’s bill gains support needed to move on to the Senate

Sacramento, Calif. (June 1, 2011) – Today, AB 750, the Investment Trust Blue Ribbon Task Force bill, authored by Assemblymember Ben Hueso (D-SanDiego) was passed by the Assembly. The bill would establish a task force to consider the viability of creating a state trust or a state bank in California.

From a fleet of 14, the first to be named after a Mexican-American

May 18, 2011 (San Diego) – Assemblymember Hueso applauds today's naming of the 14th and final Lewis and Clark Class of dry cargo and ammunition ships constructed by NASSCO, the USNS César Chávez. The Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Ray Mabus made the announcement today at an event attended by elected officials, dignitaries, and members of the Chávez family as well as hundreds of NASSCO's employees.

Assemblymember Hueso's resolution urges school districts to address the issue

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (May 13, 2011) – State Assembly Concurrent Resolution, ACR 22 authored by Assemblymember Ben Hueso, was signed by the Governor. This State Resolution declares March as California School Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. The resolution urges school districts to discuss the issue of bullying and methods of preventing it in California schools.
