Senator Hueso’s SB 357 now heads to Governor’s desk

San Diego, CA – September 13, 2017 – A bill authored by Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) and Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) that would instruct the director of the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development to establish an international trade and investment office in Mexico has passed both houses of the state legislature with overwhelming bipartisan support, and is now heading to the Governor’s office for his signature or veto.
San Diego, CA… Senator Ben Hueso and Principal Co-Author Assemblymember Todd Gloria today presented before the State Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee, Senate Bill 507 which will reallocate $2.1 million for the restoration and recovery efforts associated with the Tijuana River Valley (TJRV). The legislative proposal unanimously passed 9-0 and is now headed to Senate Appropriations.

San Diego, CA… Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) will be honoring outstanding women in celebration of the 2017 Women of the Year Awards, an annual tribute to exceptional women from his district, on Friday, March 3, 2017.
The honorees are as follows: (1) Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy; (2) Kathleen Harmon, Community Organizer, Southeast San Diego; (3) Louise Torio, Historical Preservationist for the Villa Montezuma; and (4) Yulil Alonso-Garza, founder of Mothers and Men Against Gangs Coalition in Imperial County.
San Diego, CA… Today, Senator Ben Hueso released a status update on safety improvements to the Coronado Bridge specifically Interstate 5 and State Route 75 highway ramps following the tragic accident which took the lives of four innocent victims and left at least nine people injured on October 15, 2016. Hueso has been diligently working with Caltrans to address and enhance the safety of both bridge commuters and Chicano park visitors.

This will be Senator Hueso’s second legislative session serving as Chair. SB 745 extends by four years the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) Public Housing Account, and improves the accountability and the reporting of existing programs by the California Public Utilities Commission.

This bill helps existing geothermal plants operating in disadvantaged communities by funding innovative minerals extraction techniques at those facilities has made its way to the Governor’s desk.
Sacramento, CA… State Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), today announced that Governor Brown signed into law Senate Bill 948 which would eliminate the sunset date of January 1st, 2018 for the pilot program Increased Access to Responsible Small Dollar Loans and make it permanent for Californians. This new law which goes into effect on January 1, 2017 will continue to increase the availability of responsible small dollar installment loans of at least $300 but less than $2,500.
